About Us

Sunnehanna Amateur Foundation, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization founded in 2015. Our primary purpose is to promote the national and international amateur golf competition, Sunnehanna Amateur Tournament, held annually in Johnstown, PA. The tournament invites players who have participated in the Walker Cup, NCAA, USGA Amateur Events, and players who rank in the top 150 of the Golfweek/Sagarin Amateur Rankings. Also invited are top rank juniors and champions of other major amateur tournaments.

In addition, the Sunnehanna Amateur conducts an 18 hole qualifier where the top four players earn a spot in the Sunnehanna Amateur. The tournament is a 72 hole event played over four days. The Sunnehanna Amateur is a designated point tournament and players can earn points which count toward the Golfweek/Sagarin Amateur Ranking.

The Sunnehanna Amateur also sponsors youth educational activities including instructional golf clinics for children in the Greater Johnstown area. The players who are participating in the Sunnehanna Amateur will conduct basic instructions on their golf swing. Each child receives a hat for participating at the clinic. In addition, children who have played in junior events or high school golf teams play with a participant in the Junior-Amateur tournament.

The foundation will also be making a special contribution this year to the Johnstown Junior Hockey League in memory of Don “Jet 9” Hall.
