Tournament For Champions

The Sunnehanna Amateur has a long tradition as one of the nation’s premier amateur golf events. Founded in 1954, the tournament became the first country-club sponsored 72-hole stroke play competition for amateurs in the United States.

Set in the scenic hills of Western Pennsylvania, Sunnehanna’s course, designed by the legendary Albert W. Tillinghast, has tested many of golf’s biggest names; a number of PGA tournament winners have walked its fairways, including Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus, and Tiger Woods.

Each year the tournament attracts thousands of spectators and both regional and national media as the world’s best amateur golfers compete for this coveted title. With its continued success, the Sunnehanna Amateur remains the highest ranking amateur golf tournament in America sponsored by and bearing the name of a country club.
